Spring is Here!!
Happy Spring everyone! I hope everyone survived the winter ok. It’s always nice when spring comes and we see more of the sunshine. Not only is it good to do some spring cleaning, but it’s always good to remember your routine dental visit as well. Staying up to date with regular, professional dentals cleanings, typically every 6 months, is essential for preventing tooth decay, gum disease, and tartar buildup that brushing alone cannot remove. Consistent visits allow for early detection of potential problems, saving both money and discomfort in the long run.
There are some key reasons to maintain regular visits to the dentist. Regular cleanings help prevent bacteria from entering the bloodstream, which is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and stroke. Regular exams during cleaning appointments catch issues like decay or enamel erosion early, often avoiding the need for more extensive, expensive treatments like root canals or dental implants. Plus, it’s always good to have an oral cancer screening every 6 months. The outcome for early detection is always the key. We just don’t know how rapid oral cancer is so it’s always good to have an oral cancer screening every 6 months. Professional cleaning removes surface stains, leading to a brighter, whiter and healthier smile. This alone should want you to come in and see your favorite hygienist every 6 months. Neglecting appointments allows bacteria to grow, leading to tooth decay, cavities, and more severe, long-term periodontal disease. Small issues that could have been fixed quickly turn into painful, expensive, and time-consuming dental procedures.
Advanced periodontal disease can destroy the bone supporting the teeth, leading to tooth loss. A good way to stay on task is to schedule your cleaning before leaving the office. It is also a great idea to purchase an electric toothbrush. Electric toothbrushes remove more plaque effectively and efficiently, plus help with surface stains. If anxiety causes you to skip, inform your dentist or dental hygienist, as many offer amenities like nitrous oxide or numbing gels to ensure comfort. So please make your appointment today! We look forward to helping you keep your smile healthy for years to come.

Team Highlight: Anthony
Hi, I’m Anthony and I’m 21 years old. I graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy last December with my bachelors degree in Biology and a minor in leadership. I started at Summit Family Dental in November of 2025 and I am very grateful to be apart of a supportive community. This summer, I will be attending NYU College of Dentistry as I pursue my goal of becoming a dentist. In my free time, I like to explore new places and learn new things, work out, go hiking, and watch new shows or movies. I also love to spend quality time with family and friends.
