Recall Visit
We want you to feel that your recall (check-up and cleaning) visit is as important as your other dental treatment visits. Your continuing-care visit includes many services that are extremely important for your long-term oral health. At Summit Family Dental, we don't take these services for granted and we hope you don't either.
The examination (check-up) portion of your recall visit includes a health history update and a soft-tissue/oral cancer screening. Your dentist will: examine your bite and your TMJ (tempro-mandibular joint); examine your entire mouth and look for any signs of disease, particularly caries (decay) and periodontal (gum) disease; prescribe any necessary films so that we can see the 75% of your mouth that we can't see by looking directly in your mouth; and discuss these films with you before your visit is over, and we encourage you to ask as many questions as you feel necessary.
The prophylaxis (cleaning) portion of your recall visit will be provided by your hygiene team members in conjunction with your dentist. Your team member may start with an "air polisher" (air, water, and flavored baking soda spray) to remove stains and soften deposits. Your team member will, of course, polish and floss to remove any remaining stains and give you that "freshly polished" feeling. We use a 1.64% fluoride solution in our polishing paste for everyone, not only because it strengthens the teeth against decay but also because it has a proven anti-bacterial effect, which helps to prevent periodontal disease. So, you see, not only children but also adults get fluoride treatments at Summit Family Dental. And no matter what your age, you will be given personalized home care instructions and, at your discretion, a final mouthwash.
Your Family Summit Dental dentist will recommend the best recall interval for your dental needs - usually 3, 4, 6, or 12 months. Remember, the six-month interval is not ideal for many patients. We want your recall visit to be a pleasant, personally rewarding experience. As always, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is available at no charge for your comfort and relaxation. Please help us by notifying us if we fail to meet your comfort expectations. |
Whitening
Take a first step in feeling good and looking great with brighter, whiter teeth in less than an hour. Zoom! teeth whitening is safe, effective and very fast, and performed only by a dental professional.
Fillings
To treat a cavity your dentist will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then "fill" the area on the tooth where the decayed material once lived.
Fillings are also used to repair cracked or broken teeth and teeth that have been worn down from misuse.
Extractions
A dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are performed for a wide variety of reasons. Tooth decay that has destroyed enough tooth structure to prevent restoration is the most frequent indication for extraction of teeth. Extractions of impacted or problematic wisdom teeth are routinely performed, as are extractions of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment.
Dentures
Dentures are prosthetic devices constructed to replace missing teeth, and which are supported by surrounding soft and hard tissues of the oral cavity. Conventional dentures are removable, however there are many different denture designs, some which rely on bonding or clipping onto teeth or dental implants.
Orthodontics
Orthodontics is devoted to building beautiful smiles by bringing teeth, lips, and jaws into proper alignment. Straight teeth function better, are easier to clean, and are more likely to last your lifetime.
Root Canal Therapy
There are tiny canals within your tooth that may become infected. This leads to the pulp inside your tooth also becoming infected as well.
Your dentist will remove any infection when performing the root canal procedure. The canals are cleaned and then filled and the tooth receives either a filling or a crown.

Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped "cap" that is placed over a tooth covering the tooth to restore its shape and size, strength, and/or to improve its appearance.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge (or pontic) is a custom-made false tooth or teeth, that is permanently placed between two healthy teeth, filling in the area left by a missing tooth or teeth. The bridge is held in place by porcelain crowns placed on the healthy teeth on each side of space to be filled.
Dental Implants
A
dental implant is a small "anchor" made of titanium. It is inserted into the jawbone to take the place of your missing tooth root. After osseointegration, or when the surrounding bone has attached to the implant, a replacement tooth is secured to the top of the implant. The new tooth looks, feels, and performs just like your natural teeth.
Dental implants can be used in a variety of situations, whether you need to replace a single missing tooth or many teeth. They can even be used to replace a full denture. As anchor points, implants can also securely attach a partial denture or bridge.
Cosmetic Dentistry

Whitening, or "tooth bleaching", is the most common cosmetic dental procedure. While many whitening options are now available, dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.
Bonding is a process in which an enamel-like dental composite material is applied to a tooth's surface, sculpted into shape, hardened and then polished.
Veneers are ultra-thin, custom-made laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps or disguising discolored teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.
